About Us
You can depend on Texas Health Nurse Midwife Care to deliver compassionate care at each of life’s stages.
  • Practice Model of Care

We practice according to the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) “Standards of Practice”, “Code of Ethics for Certified Nurse-Midwives”, “Philosophy of the American College of Nurse-Midwives”, and other formal protocols. Nurse-midwifery management has been proven to be clinically safe and competent while providing the support necessary to make the childbirth experience more rewarding and satisfying for women. This philosophy extends to the care of women throughout the life cycle.

  • What Is A Certified Nurse-Midwife?

The word midwife has been used for centuries to describe a woman who is “with women” at birth. A midwife was traditionally an older female in the family or the community. Today, the individuals who hold that title are highly educated professionals who work independently and collaboratively with physicians and other members of the health care team. A certified nurse-midwife (CNM) is an individual educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery, and possess evidence of certification according to the requirements of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM, 1987). Nurse – midwifery practice is the independent management of women’s health care, focusing particularly on pregnancy and gynecological needs of well women. The CNM practices within a health care system that provides for consultation, collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the client. CNMs practice in accord with the “Standards for the Practice of Nurse-Midwifery,” as defined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. The number of births attended by nurse-midwives in the state of Texas has risen each year. As parents experience the benefits of midwifery care, this trend will continue.

  • Our Mission

As nurse-midwives and long-term providers of women’s health care, we believe that every woman is entitled to comprehensive, community-oriented health care in a setting that supports cultural variations and fosters the dignity of each individual. We view the components of healthcare to include the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of the individual. Pregnancy and childbirth are viewed as normal life processes and every woman should be allowed to actively participate in the decision-making and planning of her care.

  • Student Midwife Application

Texas Health Nurse Midwife Care places a very high value on midwifery education. We strive to provide opportunities that support excellence in education. Our group of highly educated and trained midwives, along with our dedicated physician support, work to provide a wide variety of patients and experiences.

It has been our practice that students who have been accepted for clinical placement in our practice, will continue with us through Integration. We do understand that there are times when we are not able to provide all aspects of the midwifery scope of practice. We will do our best to help you accomplish your goals.

  • Birth Plan Preference

During the course of your prenatal care, we encourage you to discuss with the midwife your desires for your labor and delivery experience. We encourage you to develop a birth plan to be reviewed at a visit and provided to the hospital staff when you present for delivery. Having a birth plan facilitates continuity amongst your entire care team.

Additionally, many of our patients have a support person or doula for their labor, which we always welcome. If you are interested in more information on the benefits of doulas, or how to contact a doula, please bring this up with the midwife.

Some patients desire to have their other children present for the birth of the baby. Children and siblings are invited as long as they are supervised by another adult at all times.
